A majority of lawmakers speaking in the ‘special hour’ in the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today slammed the report of the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission (LBRC) saying it was impractical and unscientific. Jagadish Narsingh KC and Rajya Laxmi Shrestha said although the local bodies structure has been decided by the districts on the basis of the standards set by the Commission itself, the commission’s report however came up with different structure than what was agreed by the districts. KC said the police used force against the innocent locals in Nuwakot when they had gone to the District Administration Office to submit a memorandum on a matter they did not like. Prakash Jwala drew the attention of the House to the incident of smuggling in of 33 kilogrammes gold from the Tribhuvan international Airport and urged the government to pay attention to strengthening the security check and the security at the airport. He called for taking stern action against the culprits responsible for the smuggling incident. He also hit out at the lax security at the airport. “What if illegal weapons are smuggled in from the airport,” he questioned. Dr Subodh Kumar Pokharel lashed out at the government for what he said the government staying a mute spectator even when CK Raut was talking of secession. He suggested turning the five development regions in the country into five provinces to safeguard the country’s integrity and implement the federalism. Kamalesh Kumar Goswami demanded investigation into the irregularities in the Lumbini Development Trust, saying that the government has become helpless in the face of this.
